Breastfeeding or Formula?
Breastfeeding can be the most natural and nourishing for your baby. The composition of breast milk can offers your baby a good combination of nutrients and good protection against allergies and diseases. In addition, the mother-child relationship is strengthened. The WHO, therefore, recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and then further breastfeeding in connection with age-appropriate and balanced, complementary foods. A balanced diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding favors milk production. Milk formation is promoted by early and regular application. Ask your health care professional (e.g. pediatrician, midwife, breastfeeding consultant) if your child needs supplementary food or formula. The use of baby milk formula may affect breastfeeding success. However, despite this knowledge a mother can encounter several issues that make breastfeeding difficult. For example when milk production is not sufficient. There is no right or wrong answer here, and only you know what’s best for you and your baby.
