Hypoallergenic vs. Anti-Reflux

If you notice your little one is irritable and having other symptoms when eating or after, it may be reflux or an allergy. If your baby is having trouble and making a switch to HiPP AR or HiPP HA can address concerns.

What is Reflux in Babies

Acid reflux in babies, also called infant reflux, is when a baby spits up from food moving back up the digestive tract. Acid reflux can affect all ages, but for babies, it can be hard to determine if your little one has reflux or if they’re spitting up like expected.

The symptoms of reflux in babies are:

  • Not gaining weight
  • Forceful, consistent spit up (even projectile vomit)
  • Spitting up colored liquid, blood, or what looks like coffee grounds
  • Refuses food
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chronic cough
  • Irritable after eating
  • Spit up at 6 months or later

When is Your baby Hypoallergenic

If your baby is struggling with symptoms of reflux, you and your provider can determine if it’s reflux or an allergy. There are some specific differences between reflux and allergy to look out for.

If your baby has an allergy, they might need hypoallergenic formula. The signs your baby needs a special hypoallergenic formula include:

  • Extreme irritability or colic
  • Wheezing
  • Vomiting
  • Eczema
  • Diarrhea

What Makes HiPP Anti-Reflux (AR) Special?

HiPP Anti-Reflux baby formula is a formula designed for babies experiencing acid reflux. It is still organic and full of nutrients but has organic locust bean gum in it.

This ingredient makes the formula creamier and thicker. This ingredient coupled with the usual ingredients that support the GI tract helps your baby with reflux.

What Makes HiPP HA Special?

If your little one is struggling with an allergy, there is another option for them. HiPP HA formula contains hydrolyzed proteins that have been broken down and made easier to digest. If your baby has a sensitivity to milk or is at risk for allergy to milk, your pediatrician may recommend this formula.

This formula can help with digestion problems and skin reactions that are common with milk allergies.

Speak with Your Pediatrician

When you have any concerns about your little one, the first step is speaking with your pediatrician. Suspected allergies or reflux can be treated and symptoms can be controlled quickly with formula changes.
